I recently met with someone I hadn’t seen for more than a year. I wondered what I could share about my life’s events since we last talked ...
My heart
Learned to Forgive Again
I bought five new windows for the Home of the UnBroken Porch. My heart became warmer.
I participated in the Festival of Shenanigans and earned the title Grand Shenanigator. My heart became wilder and free-er.
Pippi, my car, was almost completely destroyed by the actions of a semi-truck driver who left the scene of the accident in Indiana. My heart learned to forgive again.
I continued my trip to North Carolina to see my brother and his family. My heart embraced the adventure and rejoiced in seeing them.
My heart
Broke into Pieces
I took a hot air balloon ride in Ohio. My heart experienced the freedom of open-air flight.
I danced with my 85-year-old aunt and my oldest niece at my sister and brother-in-law’s Fall Bash. My heart moved with joy.
On Christmas Eve, a friend died. He had been the love of my long-time friend’s life for more than eight years. My heart broke into pieces.
On New Year’s Eve, my great-aunt died. So did my dancing aunt. My heart cried.
Also on New Year’s Eve, my nephew and his wife had their first child. My heart exploded with excitement.
My heart
Leads Me
I turned 62. My heart reflected on a life full of small and big moments filled with all the emotions. My heart realized that being undefended makes for a life filled with compassion, ease, joy, and love.
Today, I woke up sad because of and in spite of all that my heart has experienced this past year.
My heart, I find, leads with sorrow and joy, sadness and excitement, pain and gratitude. Wherever it leads, I follow with curiosity and love.
Not much of a blog
With Only a Title
Before I wrote this – as the fifth of the month approached – I thought that, perhaps, there would not be a March 5 blog. I didn’t feel like writing anything even though I knew back in January what March’s working title would be. I knew February’s would be Telling the Truth, March’s would be Leading with Heart, and April’s would be Pivoting Toward Peace. Even with a pre-imagined title, I did not feel like writing.
Usually, when I do not have words to share, I post a blog with only photos, which can share feelings in a way words cannot. However, I wasn’t feeling the sharing-photos vibe either. I was stuck without words and without photos; I just had a title, which doesn’t make for much of a blog.
My undefended heart
A Deeper and Safer Place
Despite my stuckedness, my heart listened to the universe and shared with me words and photos to publish on March 5. My undefended heart, in sadness, led me beyond my surface emotion into a deeper and safer place where I could experience all the grief, beauty, and wonder this life has to offer me.
May you follow your undefended heart wherever it leads,
Angela Jane
